Clarissa Reiman defended two respondent veterinarians while at Jones, Skelton, and Hochuli.
Reiman defended April Talkington in a complaint related to a rather concerning euthanasia at Continental Ranch Pet Clinic. According to the complaint, a companionship and support cat from Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging was brought to Talkington for euthanasia. The cat was said to have been crying desperately while staff had difficulty inserting a catheter, and the complainant was also allegedly asked to hold the cat down while Talkington injected the euthanasia solution. The cat also vocalized before dying. Talkington allegedly reassured the complainant that her process was more "smooth" than others. In this particular case, it appears Reiman was assisted by fellow attorney Robert Berk.
Reiman also defended Hannah Blackman of BluePearl Peoria in a disturbing case where a cat slowly died from a misplaced feeding tube. Blackman placed a feeding tube for the sick cat but placed it incorrectly. The cat died from sepsis and other conditions related to force-fed food that was going into the thoracic cavity rather than the stomach. The cat's guardian, on the other hand, was left with a lifetime of guilt for the belief they were unknowingly responsible for killig their cat with every squirt of food. Reiman's defense centered on the fact that three other veterinarians and a radiologist at BluePearl also failed to notice the tube was inserted incorrectly and killing the cat. She also argued that the cat was more prone to dying as it had a prior FIV diagnosis.
Clarissa Reiman defended veterinarians in about 0.3% of cases in our Tails of Woe.
